In-system programming The in-system programmer/debugger allows you to put your own monitor program (or a huge user program without a monitor program, or an operating system) into the 160 MIPS single board computer. |
In-system debugging The in-system programmer/debugger allows you to set hardware breakpoints and to perform hardware single-stepping, even for code executing from the on-chip Flash. |
Program the on-chip Flash, set breakpoints, single-step through your code
The optional in-system programmer/debugger, gives you more options in programming the on-chip Flash of the IP2022 processor on the 160 MIPS single board computer or on custom hardware.
While the 160 MIPS single board computer contains a monitor program which allows you to upload user programs to the on-chip Flash of the IP2022 (and to erase them again), the in-system programmer/debugger gives you more options: You can replace the Ultradense, Inc.-supplied monitor program with your own monitor program or operating system or forego the monitor program completely, filling the IP2022's Flash memory with a huge user program.
The in-system programmer/debugger also gives you more flexibility in debugging.
With just the 160 MIPS single board computer, you can debug your programs by means of inserted "printf()" function calls into your code, but with the in-system programmer/debugger you can set hardware breakpoints (even in code executing out of the on-chip Flash) and you can single-step through your code (even through code executing out of the on-chip Flash).
